2023 Pacific Islands Investment Forum

Written: 9 March 2023

The National Superannuation Fund (Nasfund), and Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) will jointly host the Pacific Islands Investment Forum (PIIF) in Port Moresby.

To take place from March 27 to 31, PIIF 2023 will see heads of superannuation funds from across the Pacific Region come together to discuss issues of common interest, by providing a forum for dialogue, support for the educational needs of member organisations, and promote investment and co-investment opportunities.

Also in attendance will be representatives from development partners including the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific; the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; the Asian Development Bank; and the World Bank.

In announcing this event, Nasfund CEO Mr. Ian Tarutia and NSL CEO Mr. Paul Sayer provided media representatives with a background of the event.

According to Mr. Tarutia, this event is an opportunity for PNG to once again showcase the investment opportunities that are on offer, which may be of interest to Superfunds within this part of the world.

“PIIF 2023 is an opportunity for superfunds from within the Pacific, as well as Development Partners, to see and hear first-hand, from industry in PNG, on the opportunities that are on offer.

The Program will include speakers from across Government, business and industry representatives.

We are pleased to have Prime Minister James Marape accept our invitation to address participants during this event. Minister for International Trade & Investments Richard Maru, as well as Acting Bank of PNG Governor Elizabeth Genia will also be speaking on the opening day of the event.

This is in addition to other industry leaders from a cross-section of the business sector, who will use this opportunity to promote our country as an investment destination.

This is an opportunity for businesses to partner with Nasfund & NSL as sponsors, in hosting this event.”

NSL CEO Mr. Paul Sayer stated that as both PNG Superfunds aim for high-level industry engagement in this forum, partnerships are crucial to the success of this event.

“During the opening of PIIF 2023, there will be an Expo, showcasing what investment opportunities are on offer across a range of industries in PNG.

We would like to invite PNG business houses, developers, and investors to join us in hosting this event as we work to establish PNG as an investment destination of choice throughout the Australia-Pacific Region.

Through your sponsorship of this event, your company will be assisting the PNG Superannuation Industry to market our Country to potential investors, gain some flow in foreign currency and support the Government and business community to share the load and carry the country through these tough economic times.”

As co-hosts of PIIF 2023, Nasfund and NSL look forward to welcoming delegates to Port Moresby later this month.

Participants will be treated to a true PNG hospitality experience, whilst at the same time being provided with a glimpse into investment & co-investment opportunities in PNG and the Pacific.
