Assumptions

Projected super balance at retirement:

The projected total super balance takes into account your starting balance, employee and employer contributions, any additional voluntary contributions as well as interest earned between now and your retirement.

Retirement age:

We have assumed a default retirement age of 65. This can be adjusted in the calculator.

Working life:

The calculator assumes that you will have a continuous working life with no breaks up to your retirement age.

Interest rate:

The default investment returns have been set at 6.0%. This is based on the Nambawan Super 10-year average interest rate.

Employee contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 6% is the mandatory minimum contribution for employees to make. Employees may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Employer contributions:

PNG Superannuation laws dictate that 8.4% is the mandatory minimum contribution that employers have to make. Employers may choose to contribute more than the minimum.

Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) is currently seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced individual for the position of Senior Legal Officer - Litigation for our Legal Department.

The position is primarily responsible for providing legal services upon instruction from the Manager Legal, the Board, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Management.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Primary role is to manage litigation cases professionally to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Provide legal support and timely services to staff, management, the Trustee, Board, and external parties through the Manager Legal.
  • Interpret statutes, identify legal issues, and deliver high-quality legal advice internally or externally as needed.
  • Review, draft, and amend contracts for execution by the Board and Management.
  • Draft, execute, file, and serve court documents for National and Supreme Court matters.
  • Handle complex conveyancing matters, including commercial leases and property settlements, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Negotiate key contract terms with internal stakeholders to maximize value.
  • Facilitate clear and timely communication with external solicitors and stakeholders via the Manager Legal.
  • Negotiate and settle legal matters cost-effectively in line with Board directions.
  • Represent the Board in legal proceedings and seek out-of-court settlements where appropriate.
  • Advise on litigation matters at National and Supreme Court levels.
  • Provide well-researched legal guidance to the Board to support its governance and mandate.
  • Draft and finalize legal documents, ensuring timely execution.
  • Attend local and international conferences to gain and share legal insights.
  • Prepare and lodge company forms, ensuring proper execution and record updates.
  • Collaborate with the subsidiary accountant on financial recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Support financial reporting by reviewing and improving accounting policies, systems, and procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in Law and admission to bar.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Having practiced law continuously in PNG for 5 years.
  • Must have demonstrated understanding of commercial law in general.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in litigation in both the National and Supreme Courts.
  • Demonstrated experience in Contracts management and Conveyancing.
  • A demonstrated ability to compress complex legal issue and provide timely advise to the Board and Management.
  • Must possess good management, communication, time management, budgeting and reporting skills.
