Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) has congratulated Paradise Foods Limited (PFL) and its Queen Emma Chocolate Company (QECC) on the official inauguration of its newly renovated chocolate factory, welcoming the development as an investment that supports local manufacturing, creates economic opportunities and strengthens the value chain for PNG’s cocoa industry.
The factory upgrade, undertaken by PFL and supported by the European Union through the EU-STREIT PNG Programme, is expected to strengthen cocoa processing in PNG and create greater opportunities for local farmers by connecting locally grown cocoa to production and premium markets.
NSL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lachlan Baird, congratulated the PFL Board and Management on behalf of NSL on the milestone.
“We are pleased to see Paradise Foods Limited through the Queen Emma Chocolate Company continue to invest in PNG, develop local manufacturing capabilities and create opportunities for Papua New Guineans, all under the proud 100% shareholding of the Members of Nambawan Super.”
The upgraded facility will increase QECC’s capacity to process and produce chocolate locally, supporting downstream processing and strengthening the market for PNG-grown cocoa both locally and internationally.
The local production of chocolate directly supports the cocoa value chain, with QECC’s operations providing a market for cocoa produced farmers across the country.
Mr. Baird also acknowledged the support of the European Union through the EU-STREIT PNG Programme.
“This is a positive example of how partnerships between businesses, Government and development partners can support local industries and create opportunities for Papua New Guineans while contributing to the growth of the local economy.”
Mr. Baird further added that the Queen Emma Chocolate Company, through Paradise Foods Limited, is one example of the investments owned by NSL Members. “Our Members have an investment in a proudly Papua New Guinean company behind some of the country’s most recognised and loved household brands, including Queen Emma Chocolates, Gala Ice Cream, Em Nau and TruTru Wara.”
“Not only do NSL Members enjoy a delicious range of products that they can be proud of and get behind as locally made, but in buying a packet of EmNau biscuit or eating a bar of Queen Emma Chocolate they are directly contributing back to the growth of their retirement savings.”
