Nambawan Super Limited (NSL), through the engagement of its contracted Site Manager, O.M. Holdings Limited (Oilmin), successfully delivered a short-term employment initiative for youth from communities surrounding its 9-Mile Land, as part of a broader site maintenance and vegetation clearance project.

The initiative was implemented as part of a recently completed large-scale grass cutting and vegetation clearance exercise conducted along the full boundary of the 9-Mile Land. Delivered over a 14-day period, the program engaged 81 youths. Working alongside Oilmin teams, participants completed a five-metre clearance along both the inside and outside of the fence line, improving site visibility and security while demonstrating how operational requirements can be effectively aligned with community engagement and positive social outcomes.

The program was an opportunity to provide meaningful employment opportunities for local communities and maintain positive relationships with neighbouring landowners. Engagements with community leaders prior to commencement of the project ensured transparency in the allocation of work areas and supported the mobilisation of local labour, resulting in strong participation and a shared sense of responsibility.

Safety remained a priority throughout the initiative. All participants were provided with appropriate personal protective equipment including coveralls, safety boots, hand gloves, safety glasses, snake gaiters, bush knives and protective covers, water bottles, water coolers for hydration and underwent formal onboarding and site-specific safety inductions. Daily routines reinforced a strong safety culture, contributing to the successful completion of the program with zero injuries recorded.

In addition to the immediate employment benefits, the initiative delivered broader social outcomes. Participants gained practical work experience, exposure to structured work environments, and access to formal employment processes, including banking and employment documentation. These outcomes contribute to improved financial inclusion and opportunities for future employability.

The initiative has also strengthened trust and cooperation between NSL, its service providers, and surrounding communities, while contributing to improved site security and long-term asset management.

NSL remains committed to delivering initiatives that create shared value and will continue to explore opportunities to support local employment and community participation as development of its 9-Mile Land progresses.
