On behalf of the Nambawan Super Board, Management, and staff, it is our pleasure to wish all of Papua New Guinea a very happy 50th Independence Day.

As Papua New Guinea celebrates 50 years of Independence, Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) proudly reflects on our shared journey of growth, resilience, and nation-building.

Since our beginnings in 1962, we have evolved from a modest public sector super fund. Superannuation savings were voluntary and operated by one person from a desk within the Department of Finance. Initially, married women were excluded from super savings, but later included all female officers. Today, we are PNG’s largest and most trusted superannuation provider, now serving over 235,000 hardworking Members across the country. Guided by our Purpose of helping Members achieve their best retirement outcomes, we have grown from under K500 million in 2000 to a record K11.2 billion in Funds Under Management as the end of 2024 delivering secure retirements while actively contributing to the nation’s development.

Over the decades, our Members’ contributions have been transformed into investments that support the development of PNG. Landmark projects such as the Treasury Haus, Vulupindi, Revenue Haus, Nambawan Super Plaza in Downtown Port Moresby, the Rangeview Precinct in Waigani, the newly opened Moki Business Park, Morobe Haus, and NSL Haus in Lae, to name a few, have created thousands of jobs, supported local businesses, delivered world-class commercial spaces for our growing cities and their citizens.

Beyond urban developments, we are unlocking new opportunities through strategic land projects, such as NSL’s 9-Mile Land. This project is now in its first phase of infrastructure works, with plans to create long-term value for Members and the wider community.

Our investments are more than buildings and numbers; they represent livelihoods, opportunities, and a stronger economy for all Papua New Guineans. Initiatives like the Housing Advance product, Financial Literacy Training, and the Member Discount Program reflect our commitment to improving Members’ lives today while securing their future.

As we mark 50 years of Independence, we honour our hardworking Members, men and women whose contributions have powered the nation’s growth. Every kina invested is helping build a stronger Papua New Guinea, a nation our Members can be proud to have helped develop.

Nambawan Super celebrates this golden milestone alongside the nation and looks ahead with confidence to the next 50 years, continuing to invest in PNG’s future, strengthen our economy and deliver on our mandate of protecting and growing the retirement savings of over 235,000 Members, which include; Police personnel, Teachers, Nurses, Correctional Service personnel and all other public and private sector employees.

As PNG’s longest serving Superannuation Fund, Nambawan Super is proud to continue serving our Members as they support the social and economic development of the Country across both the Public and Private sectors. NSL remains committed to maintaining high standards of Member services, providing greater Member education on superannuation, and delivering investments that create jobs, build leaders, boost economic activity and generate strong returns over the long term for our Members.

We pledge to continue working with the futures of our Members at the forefront of all our endeavours, as we have done for over 63 years.

As we celebrate this milestone on 16 September, we should also take time to reflect on the values upon which our Country was founded and consider how we can work together to build a free, peaceful, financially stable, and prosperous nation, just as our founding fathers intended.

Nambawan Super is here for the long term. We will continue to operate with the highest ethical standards and integrity, protecting our Members’ interests first and foremost. In the face of challenges, we will remain resilient and steadfast, staying the course for our Members. Together we will continue to contribute to and build a more hopeful, prosperous and better future for Papua New Guinea and our people.

Once again, we wish you all a safe and happy Independence Day.
